Peru and its incredible diversity and legendary sights

With an area of 1,285,216 km², Peru is the third largest country in South America after Brazil and Argentina. Peru borders Ecuador and Colombia to the north, Brazil and Bolivia to the east, Chile to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The country lies in three different landscape zones - coast (Costa), highlands, Andes (Sierra), rainforest, cloud and cloud forest (Selva) - and is characterized by an incredible diversity and legendary sights.

For example, it contains a part of the Amazon rainforest and of course Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca city high up in the Andes. But also the legendary Inca Trail, which connects Machu Picchu with Cusco - the former capital of the Inca empire. The rainbow mountain Vinicunca, the Nazca Lines, Lake Titicaca and many more.

We arrive in Lima and meet up with friends who grew up in Peru. They show us many places off the beaten track.

But also famous places such as Machu Picchu, the Nazca Lines, Cusco, and others.

From Cusco, Magdalena and I continue our trip, only the two of us again. Our last destination in Peru is Lake Titicaca. The lake lies on the border between Peru and Bolivia and its located in the middle of the Andes at an altitude of 3,810 meters. The snow-capped peaks that surround it, really makes us realize the altitude. Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world.

So we travel to Puno, the starting point for trips on the Peruvian side of the lake.

From Puno, we also take a trip to the straw islands of the Uros, whose culture is even older than that of the Incas.
